Options for scheduling a meeting with the Ombudsman

Face-to-face meeting

It is highly recommended to meet with the Ombudsman in a face-to-face meeting.  The Office of the Ombudsman is located on George Mason University’s Fairfax campus. The Ombudsman is also available and willing to travel to other George Mason University campuses, as needed and based on appointments and requests.

If under extenuating circumstances (i.e. for Distance Learners) individuals cannot arrange to meet with the Ombudsman in a face-to-face meeting, please see “Internet and Telephone Communication.”

 

Internet and Telephone Communication

The Ombudsman is also able to arrange to speak with individuals through Video chat (either Skype or G-Chat) or Telephone.

If you would like to request a video chat appointment, please fill out the video chat request form. The ombudsman will confirm your appointment by phone.

Meet the University Ombudsman!

Dolores Gómez-Morán, Certified Organizational Ombudsman Practitioner(SM), has served as the Ombudsman of George Mason University in Virginia for 12 years. Establishing the office in 1999, Dolores was initially the Ombudsman for Student Academic Affairs and in 2007 was appointed as University Ombudsman. In her role as the University Ombudsman, she works with students on problem solving and conflict resolution, mediating disputes, designing and implementing trainings for the campus community and also providing recommendations on university policies and procedures. In 2007, she was honored with the Margaret Howell Award for her efforts to promote the core values of civility, respect, and diversity throughout the University and the community it serves.

Dolores is actively involved in the International Ombudsman Association (IOA) and has served on several committees within the organization.  In addition, she has membership in the following organizations:  The Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR), The European Network for Ombudsmen in Higher Education (ENOHE), The Virginia Mediation Network (VMN) and is an honorary member of the Mexican University Ombudsman Network (REDDU). On numerous occasions, she has presented at conferences and meetings of the respective organizations. Certified in conflict resolution processes and mediation, Dolores also serves as a mediator for the General District Court of the State of Virginia.

Prior to her work at George Mason, she worked at the World Bank as a consultant in the staff development division and as a career advisor at the University of London in the United Kingdom. Dolores holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and Organizational Studies from Boston College and is a licensed  psychologist from the University of Oviedo in Spain. She is a native of Spain, fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian.
